PEARL LOOK 2017 HAD A WINNER BEFORE THE GRAND FINALE?

EXPERIENCE AT PEARL LOOK 2017 (PERSONAL REVIEW)

When people talk about how modelling contests in Nigeria is all fun and games, I usually stand up for these contests and defend their reputation as much as I can.
There are so many of these competitions (can’t start mentioning all) in Nigeria. I had the opportunity to attend the just concluded “Pearl Look 2017” and I’m in still in a state of despair to the future of modeling contests in Nigeria if these issues aren’t addressed and potentially resolved. I can’t just pretend everything went well and it continues like this (the truth must be said). This is my review on the competition which was deduced from series of conversation with guests at the event, contestants, organizing committee  and personal experience.

I got to the Venue (Best Western hotel) looking all dapper with my suit by swish couture and Chelsea boots by Nineteenth shoes at about 7:19pm. I wasn’t shocked to see that the event hadn’t started. I was ushered in beautifully and I greeted couple of acquaintances before taking my sit.
It was pretty hot, I could see two or more people including myself, fanning ourselves  with the invite (Thank God for the size) which came in handy. The Dj was also good (forgot to get his name)

The show kicked off at about 8:43 pm with the contestants in their pearl look tank tops and denim shorts. I must confess, the models looked really stunning and confident. Afterwards, they walked in their bikinis, Ankara outfits and finally their dresses. We were entertained by the humble host Emmaohmagod while the judges made their decisions, the guy was sweating like Christmas goat and no one from the organizing committee could bring a handkerchief/ hand towel for him to dry his face with. That was so ridiculous!!!

The top 7 contestants were announced by Africa’s leading PRO make up artist Mr Bayo Haastrup, shortly afterwards was the top 3 contestants and finally the winner was crowned. The winner for Pearl look 2017 is the beautiful Pauline Ezenweani.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNER!!

NOW IT IS TIME FOR MY REVIEW ON PEARL LOOK 2017
Please it’s a no no for 7 contestants to share a 2 man room during their camping. Please it’s not a Nigerian public university hostel.

According to an anonymous source, the contestants were made to buy at least 2 tickets worth NGN7000 each and would be disqualified if they didn’t buy. I didn’t know this still existed. Please don’t put these girls under this kind of pressure so that they don’t take terrible decisions that can create a huge problem for them in the nearest future. THIS MUST STOP!!!

According to another anonymous source, the winner had been decided even before the camp. What we came to watch at the event was for fun and games. Apparently my source overheard one of the organisers telling someone on the phone that their winner is refusing to buy tickets and should they let her go? They didn’t obviously let her go because she is the model IcemodelsJhb is willing to sign but had her tell other contestants that she finally got the tickets. Absurd right?

The wait for the official start of the event wasn’t so much but it could be better. I understand that “Nigeria time” is an issue to address some other time.

The host “Emmaohmagod” was very professional and of course sweaty!!!! he did a great job still (thumbs up)

The guests looked flawless

The venue wasn’t hard to locate and had just enough car park space required for this event, but a bigger event will definitely exhaust the car park space.

The main event was timely, there was no awkward hiatus in production. Kudos to the production team.

RATING: ⭐⭐

  1. All competitions in Nigeria, most especially modeling competitions. All already have their winners long before they even select a date for the commencement of the events, or sometimes even before auditions or castings.
